Fixed pier

Often, the owners of a fixed pier end up choosing it because of the stability of the pier. A fixed dock does not sway in the waves like pontoon docks because it is in the air above the water surface. Usually, the fixed pier is also somewhat high above the water surface, so it is more comfortable for children and adults to jump into the water from the end of the pier.

When the pier is stable, it becomes easier to set up a dining set and a grill for summer evenings. Northwood Piers also offers attractive benches for the pier, providing comfortable seating. Below is an illustration of a larger fixed pier with ample space for relaxing at the end.

When selecting a fixed pier, it is important to consider the shoreline's bottom and the ice's behavior in the spring. If the shore is such that the ice does not accumulate against it when it melts in the spring, a fixed pier on stationary log posts can be chosen. However, if ice does accumulate on the beach, it is advisable to opt for a stable trestle (A post) pier that can be relocated to the beach for the winter.

If the beach bottom is rocky or otherwise unsuitable for log posts, a trestle pier might be a suitable alternative. Generally, though, random stones can be moved away from the bottom near the posts. Even a small area of bedrock in the pier's location does not prevent the installation of a pole pier.
